It’s been a month since my big 45 chop, meaning I cut off all of my hair at the age of 45! Cutting my hair has been a journey already! I’m not going to lie, some days I am like why did I cut my hair? But most days I just wake up feeling like yaaasssss, Honty! As I am on this journey to healthier hair, I am learning that as always, patience is the key! In one month, I focused on just trying to strengthen and grow my edges back and trying to find the product/products I love. My edges are a work in progress as I am not seeing the growth but I know that just by me not adding any stress to them with braids, weaves, gels and pulling them back all the time I know that over time this will help.
**However, if you have any suggestions for your girl K. Lyte please drop them in the comments.** As for products, I researched and researched and bought several different ones. I didn’t fall in love with any of them and grew frustrated not even a month in! Ugh! Maybe my really tight curls just can’t be handled and will remain naps instead of tight curls! But then God showed me something in only the way that He could. All of us girls ended up living in My Mom’s house together for one week. Me, my Mom, my Sister, my Niece, my Daughter and my Great Niece. So of course, we had tons of hair products floating around the house! ***On a side note, my Mom, Sister and Niece all have the looser curl patterns. Which I am very bad, cause I always say they have ‘that good hair’! I know, I know but I’m working on it just be patient with me! *** Anyway I was like there is no way their products will work for me!
But I’m like curious George and it was one of the products that I researched before but was skeptical to buy because I was thinking it would not work on my hair type! But guess what????!!!!! I tried it and it made my hair feel softer and not so dry. My tight curls are more defined and makes rocking my short natural cut even more fun, sassy and sexy! Yaaaassssss! My Niece is my go to when I have questions about natural hair and when I told her that I used it, she said ‘yes Auntie that is like Pink Lotion back in the day! Everyone uses it!’ The product is https://www.sheamoisture.com/coconut-and-hibiscus-curl-enhancing-smoothie---6-oz/764302290476.html. Try it out if you feel like your really tight curls can’t be managed or your hair stays dry no matter what you put in it. Needless to say, I’m really loving my grown woman cut now!!
Stay tuned as I journey through this world of hair health!I I know there will be some bumps in the road but You know I will always keep it real!
Your Girl,
K. Lyte
Yaaaassss Michelle! Thank you! You are so right! Drop a picture of your new cut here for all to see! I love yours too!
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous! I think it’s the best look I’ve ever seen on you (not that you needed validation from me). I always say that my hair isn’t a social statement and I style it according to my own vibe and mood. However, I suppose to some extent it is. Wearing my hair in its natural state means embracing who I truly am and requiring the rest of the world to do the same. Rock that hair girl! It’s ALL you!!!
